World Service Special Gifts
2001 - 2004


World Service Special Gifts provide opportunities for individual donors and local churches to make special gifts to designated causes or projects of one of the general agencies funded through World Service. The World Service Specials Gifts program is administered by the General Council on Ministries.

National Anti-Gambling Project

This project provides expertise to annual conferences and grassroots groups fighting the expansion of gambling in their states and communities and produces educational resources. Funds are used to support the ministry of Rev. Tom Grey, a nationally recognized leader against gambling.

Leonard M. Perryman Communications Scholarship for Ethnic Minority Students

Two scholarships are offered annually in recognition of Leonard M. Perryman, a journalist for The United Methodist Church for nearly 30 years. These scholarships aid U.S. ethnic minority undergraduate students in their junior or senior years in their pursuit of studies in religious journalism or mass communication and to promote a level of excellence in communication (e.g. audio-visual, electronic and print journalism).

Africa University Endowment Fund

Contributions will be used in the permanent endowment funds for Africa University to move the university toward financial self-sufficiency. This bold and important mission by The United Methodist Church produces graduates in theology, agriculture, education, and business. They are making a substantial contribution to shape the future of the African continent.
